James Pinto is Managing Director of MVC Private Equity Fund L.P. MVC Private Equity Fund L.P. provides debt and equity financing to small and middle-market companies in a range of industries. Since 2010, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MVC GP II, LLC, the MVC Private Equity Fund’s General Partner.
James previously served as the President of PFG, Inc., a firm that focused on private equity and debt investments. He also served as a General Partner of Grace-Pinto LP, an activist fund formed in 1987 that served clients in Canada, the US, and the UK. Over the course of his career, James was well-known in investments industry, working in corporate restructurings, telecommunications investments, energy investments, and emerging markets.
In addition to his notable financial career is, James also had a distinguished career in law. A top achievement is his admission to practice law before the Supreme Court. After passing the New York Bar, his law career began as an Associate at Kelley, Drye and Warren in New York. He has also held numerous government posts in the Department of Justice, Department of Energy, International Trade and Emergency Preparedness, and he served as Counsel to the White House Conference on Coal.
James has served on the Boards of a variety of publicly traded and private companies in a range of industries. He currently serves on the Board of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and the Georgetown University Law Center. He is also a former Director of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association and a former officer of the International Law Section.
He earned a BA in urban economics from Georgetown University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
