Joe Phelan is the Founder of Phelan & Partners, a geopolitical consultancy specialising in communications and strategic positioning.

A senior communications executive with 20 years’ experience, Joe has devised and led campaigns for heads of state and government, corporations and high-profile individuals.

In 2017 he was appointed Senior Advisor to the Global Advisory practice of APCO Worldwide where he works closely across the firm’s international network.

Prior to his current roles, Joe co-founded, and later headed, the geopolitical team of the world’s largest PR agency network and acted more recently as Special Advisor to the Secretary General of The Commonwealth.

In addition to his leadership of Phelan & Partners, Joe is the Lead Consultant, in Europe and the Middle East, for The Greatest Work Agency, a New York based firm. The company advises educational and cultural institutions on engagement with new and diverse audiences through both site-based and digital experiences.

He is also an Investor and Non-Executive Director of multi award-winning digital media organisation, 1854 Media. The platform has a global community including millions of art lovers, photographers and international brands.

In the not-for-profit space, Joe currently sits on the Board of The Photographer’s Gallery in London and is both a Young Patron of the Royal Academy and a Future Contemporary of the Serpentine Gallery.
