James Chappuis, MD, FACS, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon. He is the Founder & CEO of Spine Center Atlanta and a renowned spinal care specialist certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and licensed in Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.

Founded in 1991, Spine Center Atlanta is a premier, state-of-the-art surgical center, offering a wide range of advanced, cutting-edge services, highly focused, patient-centered care and a rehabilitation center for postoperative recovery. The Center serves patients across Georgia, with offices in Atlanta, Savannah, Conyers, Augusta, Macon and Decatur.

Dr. Chappuis’ work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Orthopedic Research, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Spine, The Physician and Sports Medicine and others. He is also often featured in leading industry publications, including Becker’s Spine Review, a leading resource on issues relating to orthopedic and spine practices, and on podcasts, television and radio, sharing his expertise on a range of orthopedic and spinal surgery topics.

Dr. Chappuis previously served on the Editorial Boards of the SF Journal of Clinical Case Reports, Clinical Surgery Journal, and on the Alumni Executive Board of the Willis C. Campbell Foundation.

Dr. Chappuis is also the Founder & Owner of the Westside Cultural Arts Center. Envisioned as a living gallery and cultural arts center, WCAC is an innovative special event venue and on-premise art gallery on Atlanta’s Westside.

Dr. Chappuis holds a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude and M.D. from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (formerly the Medical College of Ohio). He also successfully completed an AO spine fellowship in Karlsbad, Germany.

Intraoperative biomechanics of lumbar pedicle screw loosening following successful arthrodesis

The objective of this study on pedicle screw loosening in patients with recurrent back pain after lumbar spinal fusion. The data indicate that pedicle screws can loosen significantly in patients with recurrent back pain and warrant further research into methods to reduce the incidence of screw loosening and to understand the risks and potential benefits of instrumentation removal.
