Julia Charlton is the founder and a Principal Partner at Charltons Solicitors, Hong Kong, where she focusses on corporate finance, securities, virtual assets, funds, and mergers & acquisitions.
Julia established the boutique law firm, Charltons, in the late 1990s continuing a successful career in corporate finance law. Fluent in Mandarin and English, Julia has extensive knowledge of financial markets in both Hong Kong and the PRC and advises parties, within and outside of the region, on capital raising in a wide range of sectors.
In her capacity as Principal Partner, she advises Charltons’ clients, including listed companies, regulators and financial institutions, on the regulations of the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Charltons seeks to provide their clients with advice in the areas of investment, M&A, securities law, capital markets, and private equity.
After being admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales in 1985, Julia pursued her corporate finance law career as a solicitor and Partner at high-profile law firms including Slaughter and May in London and Hong Kong and Linklaters in Hong Kong. Julia was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1987, in Ireland in 2006 and in BVI in 2013.
Julia is a member of several boards and committees in Hong Kong, most notably the Takeovers & Mergers Panel, the Takeovers Appeals Committee of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and the Listing Review Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute and a member of the Working Party on Review of the Law Society’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.
In 2020 Charltons was awarded Boutique Transactional Law Firm of the Year by Asian Legal Business.
She was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, and studied a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at Kings College London.
