Tony Ressler is Co-Founder of Ares Management and currently serves as its Executive Chairman. Since its founding in 1997, Ares has grown to become a leading global alternative asset manager with over $144 billion of assets under management, focusing on private equity, real estate, and credit. Headquartered in Los Angeles, Ares has offices across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
In addition to his role as Executive Chairman, Tony serves as Chairman of the Ares Executive Management Committee. He is also a member of the Investment Committees in the Ares Private Equity and Ares Real Estate Groups, as well as the Ares Diversity and Inclusion Council. Prior to founding Ares, Tony Co-founded Apollo Global Management in 1990 and led it to become a top alternative investment manager.
Since 2015, Tony has served as the Principal Owner and Chair of the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. As Chairman/CEO and Controlling Owner of ATL Invesco Board, Tony led the group in its ownership role of the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, the College Park Skyhawks, and the Hawks Talon GC.
Tony is very active in the non-profit sector. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Board of Trustees. He is also one of the founding Board members of the Painted Turtle Camp, a southern California-based organization (affiliated with Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Association) that provides camping opportunities for sick children and their families.
An alumnus of Georgetown University, where he also serves on the Board of Trustees, Tony earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. He continued his education after Georgetown, earning an MBA from Columbia University.
