Tom Speechley is an early stage investor with a focus on next generation businesses, particularly in the field of human care and development.
Mr Speechley previously spent over a decade as a partner at The Abraaj Group where he was responsible for private equity investments in many emerging markets and several strategic initiatives, helping expand the group’s investment activity into new regions, creating new funds, establishing the firm’s presence in the United States and launching the Abraaj Institute.
Prior to joining Abraaj, Mr Speechley had a successful career in law in London and New York and was a partner with two leading international law firms based in London with a focus on acquisition financing.
Mr Speechley has sat on various of corporate and not-for profit boards including the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association and Junior Achievement Worldwide, and is a senior advisor to Endeavor, a global organization dedicated to supporting high impact entrepreneurs across the globe. Mr Speechley is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in the United Kingdom, a global network of people committed to enriching society through ideas and action.
He is the author of two books on Acquisition Finance and whilst a student at university, Mr Speechley coded a series of ten educational software programs that were used in the UKs national curriculum.
Mr Speechley has a First Class Honors degree in Law from the University of Sheffield UK, where he was a Falconer Prizeman.
