Peter Zaffino’s Biography

Peter Zaffino is a highly regarded individual in financial services, including the insurance and reinsurance industry. Throughout his career, Peter has held numerous executive leadership positions at major insurance companies. He is best known for his role as Chairman and CEO of AIG, where he led the company’s unprecedented turnaround. In June 2026, Peter transitioned to Executive Chair of AIG’s Board of Directors.

Peter joined AIG in 2017 as its Global Chief Operating Officer. He was promoted to President in 2019 and was elevated to the role of Chief Executive Officer in 2021. Under his leadership, AIG implemented significant changes that improved the underwriting and operations of the company, which led to significantly improved financial performance and profitability as AIG became an industry-leading global property and casualty insurer recognized for its pioneering deployment of AI.

Previously, Peter served as President & CEO of Marsh, a global insurance broker and risk advisor. Before Marsh, he was President & CEO of global risk and reinsurance specialist, Guy Carpenter, where he held additional executive roles upon joining the firm in 2001. In addition, Peter served as Chairman of the Risk & Insurance businesses (Marsh and Guy Carpenter) of Marsh McLennan from 2015 until he left to join AIG.

He began his executive career in the insurance and reinsurance industry at several market-leading firms, including a portfolio company of GE Capital specializing in alternative risk.

As an individual dedicated to charitable causes, Peter has spent much of his life working to improve the lives of others. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Board of Trustees for the Hospital for Special Surgery, the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health.
