Stan Miller’s Biography

Stan Miller is Chief Executive Officer of United Group, the European telecommunications and media group. He took up the role in June 2025, as the company sharpened its focus on its core EU markets.

Stan brings more than three decades of experience across telecommunications, media and technology, with senior roles in operational leadership, business development and listed-company governance.

He began his career in pay television in South Africa, where he was one of the founding executives of M-Net and later held senior roles as the business developed into the wider MultiChoice pay-TV operation. In 1991, he moved to Europe to join Nethold, a pan-European pay-TV business formed by M-Net and Richemont. As Chief Executive of its Italian operation, he oversaw the launch of Telepiù’s digital satellite television service.

Stan joined KPN in 1998 as CEO of KPN Orange in Belgium, later rebranded as BASE. He subsequently became CEO of KPN Mobile and KPN Mobile International and served on Royal KPN’s Board of Management. During a period of severe financial pressure at KPN in 2000, he played a leading role in restructuring the business, including the sale of non-core assets. His responsibilities also covered mobile operations in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and other markets.

From 2011 to 2016, Stan was Executive Chairman, director and minority shareholder of AINMT, the telecommunications group operating under the ice brand in Scandinavia and other international markets.

Alongside his executive career, Stan has substantial board experience with companies listed on multiple international exchanges. He served as a director of Mobile TeleSystems from 2010 to 2019, of VEON from 2022 to 2023, and as an independent non-executive director of MTN Group from 2016 to May 2026.

Stan holds a Diploma in Law and Administration from Technikon RSA and has completed postgraduate programmes at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business and London Business School. READ MORE VIEW LESS

It adopted the name Koninklijke (Royal) KPN in 1998 after its postal division became a separate business. Stan joined that year as CEO of KPN Orange in Belgium, later BASE, before going on to lead KPN Mobile Netherlands and KPN Mobile International, with responsibility for mobile operations in several European markets.

Nethold

Multiple roles, culminating in Chief Executive, Nethold Italy

1991 - 1997

Nethold was a pan-European pay-television group created from the subscription television interests of M-Net/MultiChoice and Richemont. It operated services across Europe and Africa, including FilmNet and Telepiù, before its European pay-TV interests were combined with Canal+ in 1997. Stan joined Nethold in 1991 and ultimately became CEO of its Italian operations, overseeing the launch of digital satellite television at Telepiù.

M-Net

Founding Executive & General Manager, South Africa

M-Net is a South African television and entertainment business launched in 1986 as the country’s first subscription television service. It became the foundation of the wider MultiChoice pay-TV business and is now part of MultiChoice Group. Stan was one of M-Net’s founding executives and served as General Manager of its South African operations, later holding senior roles as the wider pay-TV business developed.
