Michael Alen-Buckley is a Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of RAB Capital, and a long-standing patron of the Arts.
Together with a former colleague, Philip Richards, Alen-Buckley founded RAB Capital in 1999, RAB standing for Richards Alen-Buckley. Five years later the company became the first hedge fund to be listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) with funds under management of over a billion dollars.
Today, Michael’s vision for RAB Capital is a focus on investments in a range of sectors including natural resources - where investments have been made in Zimbabwe, Mali and Ukraine - renewables, life science, early-stage technologies and real estate developments. RAB Capital recently took a stake in healthcare start-up Solvotrin Therapeutics and Michael joined the board of the company as Vice Chairman.
Michael began his career as a trainee accountant but moved into stockbroking with Wood Mackenzie. Michael is a generous supporter of the Arts and serves as Chairman of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, held annually in the grounds of Lismore Castle in County Waterford. He is a Patron of Irish Heritage, a charity that promotes Irish musicians and composers in the UK.
