Gerry Cardinale’s Biography

Gerry Cardinale is the Founder and Managing Partner of RedBird Capital Partners.

RedBird is a private investment firm focused on building high-growth companies with flexible, long-term capital in partnership with its Entrepreneur & Family Office Network. RedBird today manages $4 billion of capital principally across its core industry verticals in Sports, TMT, Financial Services and Consumer. RedBird invests with an entrepreneurial, company-building mentality, with an emphasis on capital appreciation and compounding equity returns over longer holding periods. RedBird’s network of business founders and entrepreneurs is central to its investment sourcing strategy, and its highly curated group of limited partners are active co-investors who provide scalable capital support.

Prior to founding RedBird, Gerry spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs where he was a Partner of the firm and a senior leader of the Merchant Bank's private equity investing business, which managed over $100 billion of private capital investments across equity, debt, real estate and infrastructure investment strategies.

During his tenure, Gerry worked with entrepreneurs and family business owners to build several successful multi-billion-dollar platform companies, including the Yankees Entertainment & Sports ("YES") Network, Legends Hospitality, and Suddenlink Communications.

Gerry currently sits on several boards across the RedBird investment portfolio, including Aethon United, Compass Datacenters, OneTeam Partners, RedBall Acquisition Corp, RedBird FC, RedBird QSR, Skydance Media, TierPoint, the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (“YES”) Network, and Zenith Shipping.

Philanthropically, Gerry is a Trustee of the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City and leads one of the multi-state Selection Committees that awards Rhodes Scholarships.

Ex-Goldman Banker Channels the Hulk for Deals With Billionaires

The first thing visitors see after stepping off the elevator at Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners is a 10-foot-tall statue of the Incredible Hulk. “My guys and gals are young,” the former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. partner said with a grin. “The Hulk is there to remind them to be a little hungry and a little angry, in the midst of having $10 cappuccinos.”

Fenway Sports Group Closes Deal with Redbird and Lebron James

The Fenway Sports Group announced Wednesday “a significant investment in the Group by RedBird Capital Partners,” who are joined in the venture by LeBron James and Maverick Carter. The investment by RedBird into FSG is based on an enterprise valuation for FSG of $7.35 billion. RedBird is headed by founder and managing partner Gerry Cardinale.
