Barbara-Ann King is Chief Commercial Officer & Executive Board Member at Investec Wealth & Investment UK, working closely with private clients, charities, trusts and financial advisors to manage their wealth and ensure best returns on investments.
Barbara-Ann leads over 1300 people in client management, research, product and marketing across 15 offices nationally. She is the executive sponsor for Belonging, Diversity & Inclusion and sustainability. Barbara-Ann is passionate about gender equality and has won many accolades over the years for both her contribution to the industry and her work on gender parity, including the prestigious Barclays Woman of The Year.
A trained solicitor, Barbara-Ann began her career in academia before moving into banking at Citigroup, where she became Global Head of Alternative Investments. Barbara-Ann later moved to Barclays Wealth as Global Head of Alternatives before later becoming Chief Investment Officer, responsible for research, investment strategy, e-commerce & marketing.
During her time at Barclays, Barbara-Ann made her mark as a change-maker within the organisation and beyond. Under her leadership, Barclays launched SmartWoman, a female community aimed at empowering women to take control of their financial futures. She chaired the Barclays Women’s Network and was at the forefront of the bank’s fresh approach on diversity, playing a pivotal role in steering the company towards greater inclusivity across the UK and Europe.
An active philanthropist and champion of diversity, Barbara-Ann is the Co-Founder of Amara Associates, a charitable organisation that aims to help achieve diversity and balance. She is also the Co-Founder & Chair of the Global Institute for Gender Research & Investment, which aims to centralise global efforts to further women’s economic rights.
She holds a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property & Competition Law and is a Senior Associate at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge.
