Sapan Gupta currently serves as General Counsel of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS), and Vice President at ArcelorMittal Group. ArcelorMittal is one of the world’s largest steel producers and a global leader in industrials and manufacturing.
Sapan brings significant experience in various areas of law including Dispute Resolutions, Banking and Finance, Bankruptcy, Fintech, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Capital Markets, Industrials, Manufacturing and Infrastructure. Sapan has worked in various industries including Banks, Non-Bank Finance Companies, Real Estate, Steel, Ports, Mining and Power.
Previously Sapan was a Partner and National Practice Head at India's most prestigious law firm, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. At Bajaj Finance, Sapan handled all legal matters in his role as first Chief Legal Officer. Sapan was Deputy Head of the legal team at Standard Chartered Bank in South Asia, overseeing all transactions and managing risk in the region.
Working in New York at global law firm Sidley Austin, Sapan gained considerable international experience. Other roles include positions at ICICI Bank, HSBC and Tata Group where he started his career. Frequently acknowledged for his achievements, Sapan has won awards and recognition from Chambers, IFLR 1000, The Legal 500 and Asia Law 500.
Sapan was honoured to serve as Chairman of the Mumbai Chapter for Young Indians at the Confederation of Indian Industry. He has also acted as a member of the Legal & Operations Committee of the Indian Banks’ Association.
Equally at home in Mumbai, New York, Kuala Lumpur or London, Sapan is truly a global citizen. A multi award-winning lawyer, Sapan graduated from the University of Delhi with a degree in Commerce and his LLB Law qualification. He was awarded his LLM at Harvard Law School and attended the LSE as a Chevening Gurukul Scholar. Sapan is licensed to practice law in India and the State of New York.
