Joel Werner is a highly regarded investment management executive with over two decades of experience. He currently serves as Chief Investment Officer and is a Founding Partner of Solitude Capital Management, a Hong Kong-based firm. Solitude allocates and manages funds to emerging growth companies in Asia with expertise in high-quality management and business models. As CIO, Joel manages the firm's day-to-day operations and has implemented systems that have ensured it is highly sought after in the investment sector.
Prior to establishing Solitude Capital Management, Joel held the position of Managing Director at ChinaRock Capital Management (CRCM), gaining insight into Chinese capital markets and their global impact. While at CRCM, he established a network of influential industry professionals across Asia and helped develop the firm's investment strategy, complementing its focus in the technology, media and telecom sector. Ensuring efficient business practices and implementing sub-portfolio processes to improve accountability were also a significant part of his management development planning.
Previously, Joel served as a Portfolio Manager at Plural Investments LLC, where his responsibilities included the allocation of $200 million in gross capital, building on his experience at Sandelman Partners in London where he occupied a similar role. At Sandelman, he was responsible for the firm's European equity portfolio and successfully increased assets from less than $200 million to $4.5 billion.
Joel's progression in the investment sector began as an Investment Associate at Frontenac and Investment Banker at Goldman Sachs, where his responsibilities in both roles included advising on bank debt and bond offerings, secondary offerings, M&A and the completion of IPOs.
Joel holds an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
