Donato Tramuto

Biography

Donato J. Tramuto is the CEO of Tivity Health®, Inc., a leading provider of fitness, nutrition and social engagement programs, including SilverSneakers®, the nation’s leading fitness program for older adults and Nutrisystem®, a leading weight management program. A recognized innovator and industry leader with more than 35 years of healthcare experience, Donato was named a ‘global healthcare activist’ by The New York Times and is a frequent public speaker on healthcare access, business leadership, healthy aging and social isolation.

In less than a year after being named Tivity Health’s CEO, Tramuto executed a turnaround of the company’s performance and engineered a creative sale of a non-performing division, adding nearly $1 billion of valuation. In 2019, under Donato’s leadership, Tivity Health completed its acquisition of Nutrisystem, creating an integrated portfolio of fitness, nutrition and social engagement solutions to support overall health and wellness.

In 2011, Tramuto founded Health eVillages, a non-profit organization which provides state-of-the-art mobile health technology in the most challenging clinical environments. He is also the chairman and founder of the Tramuto Foundation, which helps individuals and organizations achieve their educational and healthcare goals.

Tramuto has been widely recognized for his more than three-decade commitment to social change and healthcare innovation. In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award. A member of the board of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, Tramuto is chairman of its Leadership Council where he is leading a national initiative to address workplace dignity and inclusion. Tramuto is also chairman of the board of Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights Europe.

US should invest in well-being of seniors living in rural areas

Donato Tramuto, CEO of Tivity Health writes "While the U.S. is leading global advancements in medical technologies, our underinvestment in social services and inattention to community cohesion has exacted a price...It’s time to fully address the social determinants that affect the aging population and make caring for our elderly, no matter where they live, whether a city or rural community, a national priority."

Those who are lonely also often lack meaningful social connections with others, according to Donato Tramuto, the CEO of Tivity Health and author of Life's Bulldozer Moments. In an interview with TheStreet at the MIT Age Lab Tivity Health Fitness, Food, and Friends symposium, Tramuto noted that the nearest relative to an older adult - and especially those who live in rural America - might live 270 miles away. "You have a significant number of children that have moved away, that nuclear family is no longer nearby," said Tramuto.
