Ben An, as he is more commonly known, moved to the United States at the young age of 14 to chase his dream of becoming a professional golfer. It was here that Ben An attended the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, aiming to hone his skills and progress to the next level. His efforts were rewarded, and his dedication saw him most impressively become the youngest ever winner of the US Amateur at the tender age of 17.
Ben inherited sporting genes from his parents, both table tennis medallists at the 1988 Olympic Games. Following the success of his astonishing US Amateur victory, the South Korean continued his upward trajectory, making his PGA Tour debut and featuring in The Masters in 2010. Having made major waves in the amateur game, Ben turned professional later that year and qualified for The European Challenge Tour. In his third year as a professional, he racked up a win at The Rolex Trophy, a historic achievement that also marked An as the first Korean to win on The Challenge Tour. This win helped him to 3rd place in the final Challenge Tour rankings and with it, a place on the European Tour in 2015.
Ben enjoyed a remarkable start to his European Tour career winning the Tour’s flagship event – the BMW PGA Championship by a record 6 shot winning margin en-route to being named as the 2015 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. He quickly took advantage of the PGA Tour exemptions that came his way and secured his full PGA Tour playing rights in 2016. In two majors in 2019, the U.S. Open and The Open Championship, Ben finished T16 and T32, respectively. He was also a proud member of Ernie Els’s International Presidents Cup team in December 2019 held at Royal Melbourne GC. Throughout his career thus far, he has been one of the PGA Tour’s most consistent performers over the last 4 seasons and he is a frontrunner for a PGA Tour win.
Ben resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife and son.
