As a venture capitalist and investor, Adu Advaney is currently involved in setting up a venture capital fund for early-stage fashion companies in the e-commerce space. Adu's current investments include Ron Dorff (Paris), Spoke (London) Frescobol Carioca (London), Ecole (New York) and OPUMO (London). All investments are held in his 100% owned holding company, Movement Trading BV and focused on a male urban, 'high earning not rich yet, demographic. Adu invests in publicly listed fashion companies and works as an informal advisor to the board of these companies. He served as Vice Chairman of Vilebrequin, the men's luxury swimwear brand.

Adu was Co-founder Fashion Fund One B.V. which was managed by fr2 Capital B.V. a private equity fund focusing on majority investments in mid to late-stage companies that are active in the fashion industry. The Fund was established in 2006 by the founders of Mexx and had around €90 million under management. Additionally, Adu was Co-founder of Mexx. During his time with the company he held various positions; Director Mexx Holland, Director Mexx Europe and Vice-President Wholesale. His last position was President Wholesale and Brands until he left the company at the end of June 2005. Adu was also a member of the Liz Claiborne Inc. USA Executive Council from 2002 until 2005. Liz Claiborne Inc USA acquired Mexx in 2001.

Adu graduated with a B Tech in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

The new Mexx eyes China, India

Mexx was founded in the 1970s by fashion designer Rattan Chadha and his business partner Adu Advaney who supplied private label clothes to department and wholesale stores in the Netherlands. By 1980, this had resulted in the creation of two well-known Dutch clothing brands – Moustache for men and Emanuelle for women. The two brands merged in 1986 to create Mexx, with the company name coming from M (from Moustache) and E (from Emanuelexx, plus XX (an abbreviation for “Kiss! Kiss!”). The brand achieved revenue of over $1 billion.
